About Compost Man Stan Slaughter, eco-troubadour
Kansas City-based artist and educator Stan Slaughter, known as Compost Man Stan, has been captivating audiences with his music and environmental messages since 1987. An award-winning educator, the eco-troubadour combines his folk-rock guitar and rich baritone voice with a diverse repertoire of songs from across North America, creating memorable experiences for audiences of all ages.
Stan has been an active environmental educator since he skipped class with his students in 1970 to spend the first Earth Day cleaning up the school yard. Since then, he has spoken at Master Gardeners’ groups, led Compost Workshops, performed at Water Festivals and Zoos, and engaged over 450,000 students through assemblies. With a focus on hope and empowerment, Stan uses songs like “One Step (Just Take One Step)” and “Now We Know” to inspire conservation and creative thinking.
He has a lot of fun, too. Who can take themselves too seriously while singing “Put Me In the Compost Pile?”
At the same time, Stan has been giving regional workshops for adults on organic recycling, energy conservation, and practical environmental knowledge. He has created five environmentally-themed music albums and numerous educational products, including the best-selling Compost Gin card game. His popular Compost and Worm Compost Posters are displayed on many agency, classroom, and family walls.

A two-time cancer survivor, Stan has a passion for life and for this beautiful planet, and a new lease on sharing that passion with others through songs and talks.
A former NCAA Division One basketball player whose team made the Sweet 16, Stan is a lifetime athlete who has climbed eleven 14,000-foot mountains in Colorado since turning 65.
Today, Stan and his wife, Linda Chubbuck, own Tall Oak Productions, LLC, a small business committed to teaching the principles of interconnectedness and living in harmony with each other and the planet, through products and services that uplift, inspire, and educate.
